Ollie Cole has announced that influential Dublin band Turn are to split after a farewell tour of Ireland.
“It’s very sad for myself, Ian and Gavin as this has been our life now for seven or eight years,” says Ollie Cole. “I’ve started work on my own album, which I’m off to Germany at the end of the month to finish off. I’ve been ready to make my record for a long time and the last few years have been very difficult for me and the band.”
Despite signing in 2004 to UK independent Setanta Records, Turn’s eponymous third album failed to make an impact outside of Ireland.
“I believed in this band with my whole heart and this has been one of life’s great letdowns for me,” Cole rues. “The last record deal was an awful mistake and relations with the company quickly became impossible and ultimately led us to this pont. We will tour one last time to kick out the rock ‘n’ roll and say goodbye.”
Gavin Fox and Ian Melady are also recording their own albums, the latter in tandem with his sister. Stay tuned to hotpress.com for details of those swansong shows.
