Recovered Scottish post-rockers refine their sound. There is much rejoicing.
Fans of the now defunct Scottish post-rock band Aereogramme (all three of you) are in for a treat this fortnight as the underachievers have returned in a new guise after the commercial flop of their previous band. What makes the Unwinding Hours different though, is the fact that they’ve matured their sound. Every track sounds grandiose and dramatic, and Craig B’s vocals are the right side of vulnerable, wisely reining it in enough so that he doesn’t sound too much like a needy, clingy boyfriend. While we could do without the meandering ‘The Final Hour,’ this self-titled release points the way to a brighter future for the much maligned musicians, and should hopefully see them achieve the success they deserve.
