Midnight saw the release of The Shepherd's Crown, the last novel completed by the dearly departed creator of the Discworld series.
The Shepherd's Crown is the 41st and, sadly, final entry in Sir Terry's much loved fantasy series, that began with The Colour Of Magic in 1983.
Since then the prolific author had published an entry (sometimes two!) almost yearly. The series has sold more than 80 million books in 37 languages, making him the UK's most successful author of the 1990s and second only to the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling in recent years.
Pratchett's final novel features the recurring character of trainee witch Tiffany Aching and promises that a reckoning is coming to the Discworld.
In The Telegraph Kat Brown wrote that, "This isn’t just a great Discworld book, it’s extraordinary . . . A magnificent sign-off." This will be music to the ears of grieving Pratchett fans who will be eager to bid one final farewell to the beloved author and the universe he so carefully created.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007, Terry Pratchett died at home on March 12 of this year, signing off with a pair of suitably Pratchettian tweets...
AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.
