Sampha Wins Mercury Prize

The shocked London musician said he thought he was "dreaming" when his name was read out as the winner of the much coveted £25,000 prize for best album at last night's awards ceremony.

As he got up to get his award, Sapha confessed that he hadn't even written an acceptance speech. But he spoke eloquently enough without a script.

“I’d like to dedicate this award to my parents,” the Londoner said during his acceptance speech. “They came over from Sierra Leone and just wanted to give us the best life possible.”

Sampha saw off the likes of Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and The xx to win the Best Album of 2017 award with his debut entitled 'Process'. Glass Animals was the bookies favourite, according to UK reports.
