Ahead of their trip to Longitude, singer and guitarist Andrew Savage caught up with Craig Fitzpatrick to discuss the whiskered muse behind their latest release.
Parquet Courts stormed onto the rock scene in 2012 with their debut EP Light Up Gold and new material from their latest record, Sunbathing Animal, won't disappoint Irish crowds when they hit this year's Longitude Festival.
Co-frontman Andrew Savage's cat helped the band explore facets of freedom and imprisonment; she even stars in the music video for the EP's title track single. “The fame hasn't gone to her head,” says Savage of his feline friend, Frida. “She didn't need it anyway; she's already got quite the attitude.”
The record is unapologetically raw and its roots do go deeper than the pets of band members. “There's a lot of personal stuff in there,” Savage says. “I've been imprisoned and I've also had family members that are in jail so that's one area that I was coming from.”
