It was also a very good night for pop newcomers Amasis.
It was a night of glitz, glamour and belting live performances from a whole gaggle of pop and rock’s finest.
No one threw a Liam Gallagher-esque strop – well, not that we were privy to! – but otherwise the Meteors gave the Brits a serious run for their money.
Hot Press had the great pleasure of spending 30 minutes in the company of Ms. Florence Welch who, as well as picking up the Best International Band gong with the Machine, kicked the show off with a full-blooded ‘You Got The Love’.
David Byrne, Courtney Love, Lady Gaga, Dizzee Rascal, Thom Yorke, My Bloody Valentine and the works of Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber (she’s a huge fan!) were all discussed in an interview you’ll be able to read shortly in Hot Press.
We also got to spend some quality time with the extremely charming Nofe Liberty who was still in a state of shock following her band Amasis’ winning of the Most Promising Act For 2010. We weren’t in the least bit surprised because their debut ‘Never Yours’ single is a thing of electropop joy.
We’ll have a full ringside report on the Meteors in our next issue, out on Thursday February 25. In the meantime, here are last night’s winners:
