Ireland's greatest boxer will be in Brazil this summer
Katie Taylor has qualified for this summer's Rio Olympics. The 29 year-old won her quarter final fight versus Mexican fighter Victoria Torres to automatically be added to the lightweight division for the Olympics.
The London 2012 champion joins the sterling list of Irish boxers who have already qualified for Rio including Paddy Barnes, Joe Ward, Michael Conlan, Brendan Irvine, David Oliver Joyce and Steven Donnelly.
"It's a dream come through, everyone knows how much the Olympic Games mean to me and to have a chance to defend my [Olympic] title is an absolute honour," Taylor told RTE Sport.
After failing to qualify earlier in the year, Katie admits "It's definitely a weight off my shoulders. It didn't happen for me last month and it was a big disappointment for myself and the team so it's great to be on the team now, to book my place in Rio with the rest of the lads."

"We're going to have some team in Rio and I think we're going to come home with a few gold medals. It's great to see so many Irish boxers boxing so well, she added.
