The popular action-packed series will release an eighth instalment in 2017, in addition to a number of other programs
Universal Studios recently confirmed that it will be creating a variety of spin-offs and prequels to the popular Fast and Furious franchise.
Furious 7 remains to be the second highest grossing movie of the year so far, and Universal is looking to further expand the story by creating spin-offs about various characters that are featured throughout the Fast and Furious series.
“We’ve written out story lines for various characters,” said Furious star Vin Diesel. “We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley added, “We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.”
It has not yet been announced which characters the spin-offs will be based off of, however, it is confirmed that Paul Walker's character will be left alone.
An eighth instalment of the Furious franchise is already scheduled to be released, which will hit cinemas in April 2017.
