A nine-day Tipperary festival is being planned for July 7-15, featuring Dublin band Delorentos, other musical acts from Ireland and abroad, and a host of other cultural events.
Musical guests at Junction include Irish artists Delorentos, Royseven, Director, The Dubliners, Mary Black and Eleanor McEvoy. International acts on the bill include Congolese tribal band Kasai Masai and Havana Son from Cuba.
The theme of this year’s programme is ‘Motion and Migration,’ and it features several pieces of theatre on the subject, including a few Irish premieres by international companies.
Comedian Deirdre O’Kane is also performing, along with New York’s political drag artist Taylor Mac. Deirdre Kinahan’s comedy film Melody will also be shown.
There’s dancing aplenty with the Guinness Book of Records’ world’s fastest dancer James Devine appearing, as well as the Irish premiere of dance show Tapeire, fusing tap with jazz, hip-hop, funk and Celtic rhythms.
This year there’s also a mini-festival: ‘The Many Voices of Africa,’ featuring African theatre and music, with discussion groups and a photo exhibition on Malawi.
And while all that’s going on, the kids in Clonmel will be kept busy with a wide range of children’s events like mural painting, street theatre and arts activities.
Firsts this year are the Space Time Machine, a three-week workshop for 4th and 5th year students from Clonmel, and Talking Time, a dialogue on the arts featuring performers, artists and directors from the festival, with some special guests.
Tickets for the Junction events range in price and are available from the festival website www.junctionfestival.com
