The US President enjoyed widespread support from the Irish artistic community.
It seems the good, the bad and the bleary-eyed stayed up long into the night to watch the coverage of the US Presidential Elections as results dripped in state-by-state and those all important swing states had their say. In the end, Barack Obama was re-elected comfortably, with Mitt Romney calling his camp to concede just before 6am.
If you did the sensible thing and got a decent night's sleep, renowned actress and singer Maria Doyle Kennedy was on hand to let you know the result this morning.
"Good news," she tweeted at 7am, having implored yesterday:
"VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTEMVOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE OBAMA"
Seems like the 140-ish characters paid off.
Meanwhile, Glen Hansard expressed his personal pride and joy at Obama's victory. "I love visiting and working in a country that allows and promotes free speech.. As an Irish citizen, Raising a glass to the future..."
He had earlier urged people to support the incumbent. "Today is big day in America.. I sure hope you use your voice.. Obama"

Clearly glued to coverage, Hansard also took the opportunity to retweet many pro-Obama messages, as well as a comment from Josh Ritter, who pointed out the vote that saw same sex marriage legalised in two states: "A great day for Marriage Equality!" Ritter wrote. "Amazing news from Maine and Maryland."
Lisa Hannigan concurred. "A great day for marriage equality in Maine and Maryland. I hope Ireland isn't far behind."
Hannigan will also have been pleased with the presidential outcome, having highlighted Michelle Obama as a reason to vote this week. "Vote Obama tomorrow cause his wife is very pretty and lovely."
Meanwhile, another well known 'voice of Ireland', Bressie, kept things comical while assessing Mitt's future options. "I think Romney would make a great bad guy in a bond movie or lethal weapon. Think he should broaden his horizons."
Later on, the former Blizzards man mused:
"To bond international relations and cementing foreign policy future of America Obamas acceptance song and dance should of been gangnum style"
With that in mind, Nathan Barnatt has put together a band-approved celebration video of 'the first couple' dancing to Two Door Cinema Club's 'Something Good Can Work (RAC Remix)".
Well worth a look as more reaction streams in....
