Zero To Hero And Alexander Ebert Goes Solo
Erstwhile frontman with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Alexander Ebert has gone down the Madonna route and dropped his surname for his inaugural debut album. Thankfully that’s where the similarity ends for this child-like, distinctly Marmite-flavoured effort (the image of the musician clad in skin-tight pink lycra is something no-one really wants to see, do they?). Playing all of the instruments himself, some of the so-called “mouth sounds” on the record will infuriate some, but if, like this writer, you’re a fan of Marc Bolan’s early Tyrannosaurus Rex material and people like Devendra Banhart, you’ll find this eponymous release a charming affair.
