Dublin's Project Arts Centre will host an evening of live music, DJs and an art auction - proceeds of which will be donated to AIDS Orphans Support
So you’ve bought the new Band Aid single and think you’ve done your bit for “those less fortunate”? Wrong!
With all that hedonistic partying you’ve got planned between now and Christmas, you could be channeling some money and energy into a top-notch night like Hearing Aids.
Organised by Dublin-based collective The Alphabet Set (the same people who brought you last year’s Nollaig Noodles fundraiser), Hearing Aids is taking place on December 18 at the Project Arts Centre, Temple Bar.
To be staged over eight whopping hours, the event will encompass live music performances, DJs, and an art auction to raise money for AIDS Orphans in Kenya.
The live line-up will be headlined by Dublin's man of the moment Jimmy Behan. Released on the Elusive Recordings, his new album Days Are What We Live In stirred an “absolutely lovely” nine out of ten by Hot Press’ Barry O’Donoghue.

Other live performances come from Herv, Mandalla, United Bible Studies, Schroedersound, Michael Fleming, Holy Ghost Fathers, Sarsparilla and Prince Kong, with styles ranging from electronica and Indian to improv to rock.
The festivities will be held over three rooms, with live visuals and animations to boot. DJs include Toirse, Kormac, Cool C, Karla, T-Woc and 2-BiT playing soul, hip-hop, funk, disco, reggae, breaks and electro.
Not only does your €13 admission go directly to a good cause, it also gives you exposure to the cream of Dublin’s electronic acts and labels - the Alphabet Set, Invisible Agent, Front End Synthetics, CompactRisc, Deserted Village, 8Ball, Lazybird and Ballroom of Romance.
Hearing Aids will also provide an oportunity for you to do some charitable Christmas gift buying, with an art auction to be held in the earlier part of the evening.
The artworks, which range in media from photography and painting to textiles and graffiti, have been donated by the following artists: John Rocha, Elizabeth Cope, John Nolan, Denis Reid, Mike O'Toole, Angry Associates, Ciaran Murphy, Kevin Nolan, Enagh Farrell, Kube, Evelyn Tiernan, Steven Nolan, Caoimhe Grant and Isabelle Cooke.
And if that's not tempting enough, there will also be a raffle on the night for "a whole load of goodies including a case of really tasty wine and a magic box of CDs and Vinyl".
Hearing Aids takes place at the Project Arts Centre on December 18, from 6.30pm to 2.30am. The art auction will take place from 6.30 to 8pm, with musical proceedings kicking off at 8pm.
