In a year which saw some sterling releases, Everyday Robots beats the competition to seal top spot.
Not a man short of acclaim, Damon Albarn has one more honour to add to his ever-growing list of accomplishments; Everyday Robots is the Hot Press Album of the Year.
The melancholic blend of folk and electronica from the Blur frontman beat out U2’s Songs of Innocence and Hozier’s self-titled debut in our end of year poll, which can be found in full in the pages of the Hot Press Annual. There’s also room for another Irish artist in the top ten, as Damien Rice sees his long awaited My Favourite Faded Fantasy named the fifth most impressive release of the year.
One of the breakthrough acts of the last twelve months, Future Islands, are the only representatives of the foreign legion in the top five, but there’s plenty of quality international acts who polled well; St Vincent, Interpol and Wild Beasts all make it into our top ten records of 2014.
But what of Morrissey? How did Royal Blood fare? And was there room for Taylor Swift? Well, we can’t give it all away; to check out all 50 of our selections, pick up a copy of the Hot Press Annual, available in all good newsagents right now and here!
