The revolutionising sci-fi trilogy is set to be dredged up by Warner Bros., with Michael B. Jordan rumoured for the leading role.
Combining comic-book-style storytelling, pioneering CGI and a mind-bending plot, The Matrix received widespread critical acclaim when it was released in 1999 and the original film is now talked in hallowed terms.
The two sequels? Well, the less said, the better.
Now, all of 18 years since the release of the first film, The Hollywood Reporter has said that Warner Bros. Pictures is in discussions to relaunch The Matrix in an undisclosed form (meaning it's unclear if it's a reboot, a sequel, a prequel or a remake). All that we currently know is that screenwriter Zak Penn (X2: X-Men United, Ready Player One) is in talks to pen a treatment and Michael B. Jordan is under consideration for the lead.

The Wachowski siblings, who wrote and directed the original Matrix trilogy, are not currently involved in the project and it's unclear whether they will be at a later date. Also unclear is whether the new film will feature any of the original actors (Keanu Reaves, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving or Carrie-Anne Moss) in any capacity.
