To celebrate Record Store Day 2021, Hot Press is chatting to some of the country's favourite music shops, in anticipation of the big day.
Golden Discs in Wexford are “ecstatic” ahead of Drop 1 of Record Store Day 2021 this Saturday, June 12.
As record stores and vinyl enthusiasts are gearing up for Drop 1, Michelle Bradley manager of Golden Discs in Wexford says, “It's been amazing to welcome all our customers back over the last few weeks.”
Due to Covid-19 there won’t be any live performances this year, though Michelle fondly remembers live gigs from previous years.
“Our favourite memory would be RSD April 21st 2018," she says. "We started the day with live performances from Rachel Grace, followed by Frankenstein Bolts finished off with local DJ Aaron Coleman. It not only introduced us to loyal RSD customers but we had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic local artists."
The shop held a competition in the run-up to the event, where one lucky winner and a friend earned early access to the shop, along with two €50 vouchers. Golden Discs in Wexford are now spending this week organising the shop so customers can “browse and shop in comfort.”
Michelle says that “it's something very special" for the customers.
“They've been looking at the release lists for weeks," she adds. "For some it's nostalgia, others it's adding to their collection. But for all, it's about the love of music."
Of course, Record Store Day is also about those special vinyl releases made exclusively for the day, and the staff at Golden Disc Wexford are excited about this year’s list.
“There's a few we’re looking forward to selling," says Michelle. "Fatboy Slim being the main one for me. And Twenty One Pilots, Supergrass and Fontaines D.C."
Record Store Day is equally important as an event for bringing together music lovers and passionate record owners. “We might have different tastes, but we all share the same passion,” Michelle concludes.
Hot Press is also celebrating Record Store Day by offering you the chance to win a spectacular Pro-Ject Audio T1 BT turntable from Henley Audio (exclusive ROI and UK distributor of ProJect Audio Systems) worth €399.
