Murphy's Live bands announced
After a mammoth four hundred and fifty entries, the fourteen finalist bands for the Murphy’s Live '08 band competition have been announced...
...and they are (drum roll please!): From Cork - My Evil Ex, Painting By Numbers, Setmaker and Chucklehead, from Dublin - Bravado, Superjimenez, Stagger Lee and Story of Hair, from Waterford - Gorbachov and Floyd Soul & The Wolf, from Limerick - Seneca and Walter Mitty and The Realists and finally, from Killarney - B-Movie Monster and Japan Four.
The fourteen bands were chosen from a record-breaking number of entries received from around the country and represent a wide variety of musical genres. Each band will now compete nationwide in Murphy’s Live heats, which take place in Cork, Dublin (x2), Waterford, Limerick, Killarney and Clonakilty from Jan 24th to March 6th, to qualify for the semi-finals in April 2008. From the semi-finals, two bands will be chosen to battle it out in the Grand Finale, held in Dublin in May, to win an EP release with FIFA Records worth €10,000, which includes in studio recording time, national distribution and a full music publicity campaign.
Delorentos, Fight Like Apes, Future Kings of Spain, Giveamanakick, Fred, Ilya K and Ham Sandwich will headline the series of heats, giving the competing bands the opportunity to play with some of the best live acts on the current Irish music scene.
Murphy's Live continues to build its reputation as Ireland’s most respected new band event, providing both media and industry attention for emerging Irish artists.
