Irish craft beer market set to surge
Spending on artisan beer expected to grow by 10% in the next five years
Chairman of Beoir.org, Sean Billings expects the Irish craft beer market to continue its dramatic growth over the next five to ten years.
Speaking to Hot Press, Billings likened the micro-brewery revolution to that of Belgium, claiming we are headed for a similar brewery to population ratio.
He said: "they [Belgium] really have it down to a fine art. They've something like 125 breweries for a population of 11 million. Give it ten years and the ratio in Ireland could be pretty similar."
Billings reflected on the recent growth of Irish breweries saying: "what we're seeing now isn't a craze or a fad, people have travelled, they know what good beer tastes like and they want it in their local. The Irish craft beer market is going to grow and grow."
