Limerick-based but originally from Mayo, Conor Ward played in bands during his teenage years, before starting to write his own material. While doing a science degree in Galway, he supported big Irish acts such as Ham Sandwich and Ryan Sheridan. These shows made him feel that he, too, could some day have his own headline shows.
Conor’s indie-folk sound draws inspiration from the likes of Ray la Montagne and Ben Harper, as well as icons such as Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan. However, he believes his recent travels have had a considerable impact upon his work too.
He has just returned from a number of years abroad, visiting countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Bolivia and Peru, whilst continuing to gig as he moved around.
To reflect the ups and downs of his travel experiences, his new music is a mix of upbeat catchy pop songs and melancholic acoustic ballads.

Ward’s low points on the trip made him comprehend the negative effects of social media. For instance, you might see your friends’ Instagram posts of their visit to Machu Picchu, but nothing about them missing their flight or losing their passport.
Since his return, Conor has released his debut EP, Wanderlust. Inspired by his foreign adventures, the tracks have received significant airplay across the country.
His current goal? “Spreading the music to as many people as possible”.
The Wanderlust EP is out now. Conor Ward plays Whelan’s Upstairs on February 7.
