The extremely wonderful Frank Sidebottom lost his battle against cancer on Monday in Manchester. He was 54.
Sidebottom was the papier-mâché headed alter ego of Chris Sievey who with his punk-era band The Freshies scored a minor hit with ‘I’m In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk’.
A renowned Mancunian scenester, he included New Order, The Smiths, Caroline Aherne, John Cooper Clarke and Chris Evans among his friends and admirers.
