Having read Paul Nolan’s potentially Pulitzer-prize winning Hoot Press interview with Arj Barker, Caught In The Net made an immediate beeline – or should that be catline? – for www.arjandpoopy.com which is home to all of his and collaborator Bernard Derriman’s farting feline animations.
Described by one observer as "Ren & Stimpy on downers", it's less in yer' face than network ‘toons like The Simpsons or Family Guy, but in its own way just as funny.
If you need convincing of its comic genius, check out Poopy's greenhouse gas-emitting rendition of The White Stripes' ‘Hotel Yorba' at the end of the Unlucky In Love episode.
Joining Mr. Barker at the upcoming Carlsberg Comedy Festival in Dublin's Iveagh Gardens is Bo Burnham, the 19-year-old American who recently registered his 60 millionth YouTube hit. To celebrate he's penned a ditty called ‘Welcome To YouYube', which includes such choice couplets as: "Before YouTube I walked through life/And now I frolic/YouTube has been like a father to me/Except YouTube's not an alcoholic."
Find out what all the fuss is about at www.youtube.com/user/boburnham and www.boburnham.com.
From there it's but a mere mouse-click to www.a10.com/game/Gorillaz.html where 2D, Murdoc and Noodle are starring in their own Grand Theft Auto-style romp to squeeze a few more squillion sales out of their new album.
"Outrun the cops, evade the El Camino, attempt daring underwater rescues and use the doom glider to foil 2D's increasingly inventive escape attempts from Plastic Beach," says the Jamie Hewitt-designed blurb. As an added incentive to make it through to the final chapter, there's a free ‘Superfast Jellyfish' MP3 waiting to greet you.
Even though it makes us feel dizzy, CIN has also been loving Pendulum's 360º video for ‘Salt In The Wounds', which can be made to dance, sing and do almost any old thing (spot the archaic Faces reference). Wonder at the marvels of modern technology at www.pendulum.com/360.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOHzRq01N_I (trailer for the new Anton Corbijn/George Clooney assassin movie); youroldcrapwebsite.wordpress.com ("dredging the internet archives 1996-2001"); and love6music.com (Lego Bowie takes on the BBC).
