The fortnight’s essential news in the world of games and apps...
Ultimate Rugby App- What the ruck is this? The Ultimate Rugby App app features up to date news and analysis from the Lions Tour 2013, with player insights and loads more. The app, which has over 100,000 Irish users since launching last October, brings fans closer to players. The sports stars write their own autobiographies and interact directly with the app users. Lexus Ireland sponsors the app for the 2013 season.
Eye Verify- It might sound like mission impossible, but an app in development lets you access locked data using your eyeballs. Rather than using the classic retina scan, Eye Verify picks up the unique vein patterns on a person’s peepers. The app is currently in beta – a rollout is planned for Android devices.
SURV- As US whistleblower Edward Snowdown has proven, Big Brother is watching us. New mapping app SURV might not protect our privacy on the internet, but it will give us a clearer idea of who’s watching us in the real world. The app, currently in beta, can locate outdoor surveillance cameras within a 100-metre radius of an iPhone.

Instagram, Facebook’s photo-sharing app, is dipping into the world of video. Users can now take video clips lasting between 3 and 15 seconds, and choose from a selection of 13 filters to spice up the finished product. When you go to take a photograph on Instagram, you now find a movie tool icon. “Tap it to enter video mode, where you can take up to 15 seconds of video through the Instagram camera,” explained Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom. “When you post a video, you’ll also be able to select your favourite scene from what you’ve recorded as your cover image, so your videos are beautiful even when they’re not playing.”
