Will Smith will be starring in a new feature about the NFL and brain damage
A new film is scheduled to be released based on the true story of Doctor Bennet Omalu, a forensic pathologist who fought to reveal the severe brain damage that is suffered by football players.
Omalu discovered that the consistent head injuries experienced by football players in the sport leads to chromic traumatic encephalopathy. Previously called dementia pugilistica, the disease exhibits symptoms of dementia, including memory loss, aggression, confusion and depression. Upon Omalu's discovery, the National Football League (NFL) attempted to do whatever they could to disparage Omalu and undermine his discoveries in order to maintain their massive business.
In the film, the transformative Omalu will be played by the iconic Will Smith. The feature will be directed by Peter Landesman, and will also star Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Arliss Howard, Paul Reiser and Luke Wilson.
It is scheduled to hit Irish cinemas January 29, 2016.
