Their second single this year has just premiered.
Hailing from Dublin but currently making their presence felt in a big way over in London, Valves have been hard at work since their four-piece line-up was cemented in 2013, writing and gigging up a storm.
They've been extremely busy so far this year, wowing crowds across the UK capital with gigs in the iconic likes of Camden Barfly and The Garage. In recording terms, they unleashed debut single 'Hold The Reins' to a strong reaction in March.
Now their sophomore single is good to go. Another track produced by Dublin's very own Werkhouse Productions at Apollo Studios, 'Underground' is something of a departure for the Irish outfit.
Lead vocalist Ian Plunkett explains:
"It’s a more honest, melancholic lyric about what happens when friendships and relationships begin to fall apart. We worked very closely with the director on creating the video and it was incredibly powerful to get a unique insight into the subject’s life, his regrets, as well as his hopes and dreams as he approaches the twilight of his life. We are excited to get back to the Old Queen’s Head for a big show next month."
That official launch gig goes down on Wednesday September 16 (tickets, priced at £5.95, are available here) but you can see the video right now.
Shot and directed by John Stokes (brother of Valves drummer Paul), it tells the story of their great-uncle, a retired Dubliner who worked on the London show business circuit in the '70s. Shot in monochrome, the short film depicts him reminiscing on the choices he has made throughout his life, which included partying with the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Keith Moon, Evel Knievel and Muhammad Ali, and running a chain of successful bars in Las Vegas. Certainly not your run-of-the-mill band promo. Check it out below.
