The band say they're "devastated by the loss of life"
U2 have cancelled tonight's show in Paris. The decision follows the series of terrorist attacks, which took place last night in the French capital. In all, nearly 130 people have been reported dead, as a result of a number of gun attacks and bombs. The President of France, Francois Hollande, has described the attacks as an act of war by ISIS.
Announcing the cancellation of the show, U2 extended their sympathy to everyone affected by the tragic events that shook the City of Light last night.
“We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight,” reads an an official band communique. “We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe.”
As a result of the ongoing state of emergency across France, the band have postponed the concert scheduled for tonight in Paris’ Accor Hotels Arena, which was to have been live broadcast by HBO.
The band say that they’re “fully resolved to go ahead with this show at an appropriate time.”
As of now, the band's concert tomorrow night, Sunday November 15 remains on the schedule. However, people shoud watch news outlets for further developments.
Given the appalling news of death, destruction and grief, this song seems more appropriate than ever...
