The Dublin band's 14th studio album has gone straight to the top spot in the Billboard charts, achieving the best sales during a single week for any rock album Stateside during the past 12 months.
U2's new album 'Songs of Innocence' sold an impressive 186,000 copies during its first week in the USA.
Billboard reports that U2's album, which is receiving glowing reviews, sold more copies of any rock album during a week since Metallica 'Hardwired… to Self-Destruct' back in 2016
It's U2's first number one album in America since 2009's 'No Line on the Horizon', as 'Songs of Innocence' didn't qualify for the charts after Apple gave it away for free.
Surprisingly, the only U2 album during the past 30 years to qualify for the charts and to not actually go to number one is 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'. It peaked at number three, which would be an incredible feat anyway for most bands.
In total, U2 have now notched up eight number one albums in America.
