The Strypes honour the great Wilco Johnson for Jack and Jill Charity Egg Hunt appeal...
The Strypes are appealing to music fans to get behind Jack and Jill's Big Egg Hunt. As part of the charity egg auction, the Cavan four-piece were asked to design their own egg, for which you can now bid on.
The online auction for the egg is due to close March 28, and with the egg currently at just €275 The Strypes and the Jack and Jill foundation would love a few more bids to help out their cause.
You can bid for the egg here which The Strypes decorated themselves in tribute to Wilko Johnson, former lead guitarist of the mid-70s Essex band Dr. Feelgood, who has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.
Speaking of the great Wilco Johnson The Strypes said:

“When we were asked to design an egg for the Big Egg Hunt, one of the first ideas we had was to pay tribute to Wilko Johnson, former lead guitarist of the mid-70s Essex band Dr. Feelgood. Our being asked to paint the egg coincided with us finding out that Wilko has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. We were all completely stunned and moved, and felt it would be a great idea to do something Feelgood-related. Dr. Feelgood definitely top the list of bands that have influenced us the most, with their energetic, no-nonsense, aggressive brand of Rhythm 'n' Blues. Wilko is a big personal hero to us, also and we feel that neither he nor The Feelgoods ever got the public recognition they deserved. They influenced our whole manifesto so enormously, that we thought we'd repay them in a small way with a PR exercise of sorts! We also hope this will raise awareness of Wilko's illness. He's refused chemotherapy and instead he's gonna keep gigging till the bitter end. He's on his farewell tour at the moment. The public at large really don't realise how important Dr. Feelgood were to the history of rock. Paul Weller, Bob Geldof, Joe Strummer and many other acclaimed musicians would cite Wilko as a major influence on their careers. We hope that this gesture might encourage some people to check out his/Dr. Feelgood's work.”
