Mick and the boys are doing their legendary rock 'n' roll thing in May.
Having stuck "No Stopping 8am-26=2-18" billboard posters up around town, The Rolling Stones have duly delivered with this morning's announcement that they're playing Croke Park, Dublin on May 17. Tickets go on sale on Friday March 23.
Mick and the boys should be in top form having just picked up what is only their third ever Grammy for Blue & Lonesome, a high octane collection of covers, which finds them paying tribute to such childhood heroes of theirs as Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Willie Dixon.
It's their first Irish show since 2007's return trip to Slane, which ran to a whopping 19 songs drawing on every phase of their illustrious career. Expect more of the same when they bring the latest leg of their No Filter Tour to Croker.
“It’s such a joy to play with this band there’s no stopping us, we’re only just getting started really," says Keith Richards while Mick Jagger adds: ‘‘This part of the tour is really special for the Stones. We are looking forward to getting back onstage in the summer and playing to fans in the UK and Ireland. Its always exhilarating going to cities we haven’t played for quite a while and also some new venues for us like Old Trafford & The London Stadium.’’
Not to be left out, Charlie Watts remarks that, "The Stones audience is the glue that keeps us together. The best and most satisfying moment is when you are reaching the end of the show and they are all going nuts", and perennial new boy Ronnie Wood enthuses: “When I look out at the sea of people when we play all I can see is smiles. It’s heart-warming and I’m glad we make people happy. Music makes me happy, and it makes them happy... it's infectious”
According to the blurb, "A limited number of VIP packages will be available for purchase. Package offerings can include an amazing selection of tickets – including tickets in the ultra-exclusive No Filter Pit – limited-edition lithographs, custom VIP merchandise, and much more. Fans can also enjoy a variety of travel packages that will be available in all cities. For more information please visit www.rollingstones.com."
