Dublin quintet The Hot Sprockets speak to Craig Fitzpatrick about their viral success and cosmic brotherhood bond as they gear up to launch their next album Brother Nature.
While their music is more than enough to grab your attention, The Hot Sprockets are both musicians and highly effective self-marketers. The group quickly attained popularity last year with a ‘Sabotage’-style ‘70s swag promo video for ‘Soul Brother’ and a following series of wacky videos.
“We were hitting up a lot of gigs but you’re only hitting up that amount of people at that time," says Tim Cullen. "Whereas with the internet, it’s there all the time and you can see it all the time. Our Facebook has doubled in amount since we released ‘Soul Brother’ last year. We practically doubled our audience.”
The five bandmates are a group of old school friends, and whether they are playing for Facebook fans, a jam-packed pub or just each other, Cullen said the “cosmic” connection between them allows for some quick changes in the middle of a song.

“Loads of times when you go to do that, all the others change at the same time and it fits in. Wow! It blows your mind. There’s definitely a cosmic thing there. I don’t know what it is. It’s almost as if the song is meant to have that, and it’s life making you both do it.”
