Ex-punk that I am I’m not going to berate anybody for having a go/creating their own scene/trying to get up people’s noses, but as much as they want it to be 1976 Selfish Cunt aren’t going to ferment revolution by giving themselves a self-consciously rude name/swearing a lot/sounding like a very bad S*M*A*S*H.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the New Wave of New Wave of New Wave.
Never mind the piss poor production, Mark E. Smithaaaaaaaaaaaaa rip off vocals or unintentionally hilarious drum machine, what rankles most about Selfish Cunt is their Student Union attempts at being controversial.
The likes of ‘Corporate Slut’, ‘Fuck The Poor’ and – Tony Blair must be quaking in Number 10 – ‘Britain Is Shit’ achieve the impossible by sounding even more contrived and fourth-hand than their titles.
“This album has the energy of the Sex Pistols” screams the press blurb, which would be true if Johnny Rotten & Co. hadn’t had an original thought, idea or tune in their bodies.
Selfish Cunt are the Vanilla Ice of punk rock and, as such, can fuck right off.
