The Irish actress shouldn't have a repeat of Dennis Quaid's butchering again
The delightfully talented Saoirse Ronan spoke with Ellen DeGeneres on her afternoon talk show - clarifying for our transatlantic friends just how her first name should be pronounced.
The pair chatted about the 21-year-old's recent Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress, for her role in Brooklyn. And of course, Ellen played the cringeworthy video of Dennis Quaid attempting to pronounce Saoirse's first name.
The Carlow native blushed slightly with her head in her hands, as Quaid announced "Shee-sha Ronan" was a nominee. Saoirse remarked that the American actor had "butchered" the pronunciation.
Thankfully, Ellen sought to rectify the situation. She presented Ronan with a special piece of clothing, that spells out exactly how to pronounce the Irish name.
