Red Kross: “Visionary” (This Way Up)
Gigolo Aunts: “Where I Find My Heaven” (Fire)
A disappointingly routine offering from these sometime purveyors of perfect pop. Sure, there’s the odd glimpse of the master craftsmanship that has seen Red Kross favourably compared to everyone from Kiss to Nirvana but after 14 years of obscurity, I doubt if it’s going to be the thoroughly aimless ‘Visionary’ which thrusts the Brothers McDonald into the spotlight.

Next time possibly.
Boston’s Gigolo Aunts, however, serve up a song with enough joi de vivre to turn grey skies to blue, tap water to porter and Everton to championship contenders. Sure, they unashamedly rip off Gram Parsons, The Byrds, REM and just about every other hip influence you’d care to mention, but sometimes petty thievery can be an art form in itself.
