A TIDAL exclusive.
We were a bit heartbroken when Prince's music mysteriously disappeared from Spotify (it turned out TIDAL had won his affections) and now Prince is rubbing salt in the wounds.
The imperious Purple One has confirmed that his 33rd studio album will soon land – and it will be exclusive to TIDAL.
HitNRun – a "funky' and "experimental" effort his band say, helpfully – will land on Jay Z's music streaming service on September 7. It was knocked together in 90 days and lead single 'HARDROCKLOVER', a commentary on the current state of music, landed on July 1.
“Record contracts are just like – I’m gonna say the word – slavery. I would tell any young artist … don’t sign.” This is what Prince told journalists at a meet and greet at his Paisley Park Studios last night.
He further commented in a statement: "After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at Tidal recognise and applaud the effort that real musicians put into their craft to achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry.Secondly, Tidal have honoured us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows us to continue making art in the fashion We've grown accustomed to and we're extremely grateful for their generous support. And lastly, in the tech-savvy, real-time world we all live in today, everything is faster. From its conception and that one & only meeting, HitNRun took about 90 days to prepare its release. If that's what freedom feels like, HitNRun is what it sounds like."
