Vincent Paul Abbott, who has died at the relatively young age of 54-years-old, has been described as a "legend" and an "inspiration" in two of the many tributes being paid at the moment on social media.
The sad news of his unexpected death was announced on the band's Facebook page last Friday. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
“Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away. Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time," the post read.
Paul formed Pantera in 1981 with his brother "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott . During the band's time together, they enjoyed a No 1 album in the US in 1994 and earned four Grammy nominations.
Paying tribute, Megadeth said: “We are deeply saddened to hear that our dear friend and brother, Vinnie Paul has passed away. Rest in Peace Vinnie, you will truly be missed and forever remembered.”
Matchbox Twenty guitarist, Paul Doucette said: "Very sad to hear about the passing of Vinnie Paul. Met him a few times and he was always a very kind human."
Alice in Chains described him as a “good man gone way too soon".
Five Finger Death Punch tweeted: “The World has lost another legend,”. “He was an inspiration and a good friend... We will miss you Vinnie Paul. R.I.P."
