Motorhead do what they do best
Much like their fallen brothers in arms The Ramones, punk/metal legends Motörhead refined their sound to the point of perfection some 30-odd years ago. Since then, Lemmy Kilmister and his cohorts have been routinely battering us all around the head every two years or so with their super-fast, super-sordid salvos. The World Is Yours is their 20th record and, true to form, it’s another satisfyingly meaty excursion into the world of the three and a half minute rock‘n’roll song that will certainly please the faithful no end.
While there is nothing on the record to rival the likes of old school classics such as ‘Bomber’ or ‘Metropolis’, newies ‘Waiting For The Snake’ and the sweet and tender ballad ‘Bye Bye Bitch Goodbye’ (yes, we’re joking) sound like vintage Motörhead and guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee, in particular, put in Herculean performances, hammering their instruments of mass destruction like a red-headed stepchild for the duration of the ten tracks.
Obviously it (almost) goes without saying that the warts‘n’all approach of The World Is Yours won’t convert the nay-sayers, but the band’s legion of denim and leather-clad warriors will love it and it’s a solid addition to the band’s catalogue, that delivers classic rock treats in spades.
