The iconic singer's 2009 death couldn't keep him from the stage at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas.
The hologram, dressed in attire from the singer's Dangerous era performed the track 'Slave to the Rhythm' off his second posthumous release Xscape, which debuted at number four on the Irish charts.
The concept of using holograms to fill in for dead musicians gained traction with the "2Pac" performance at Coachella in 2012, and since has lead to rumours involving almost every dead rocker from Jimi Hendrix to Amy Winehouse. The makers of the 2Pac hologram, Hologram USA Inc and Musion Das Hologram Ltd, ended up exposing what was supposed to be a surprise performance with a lawsuit over a possible infringement on their patent.
