Hot Press cover stars Keywest are at the summit of the album rundown, leading Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift as Joyland reaches the top
You can call it the Hot Press bump if you wish, but Keywest have stormed to the top of the Irish chart with their LP Joyland.
The album was held off the top last week, but the past seven days have seen it outselling the likes of Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift to land the Dublin-based group their first No. 1 album.
“This is a really fantastic achievement for the band – and fully deserved,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said. “Keywest are completely committed, passionate musicians, who have developed their craft brilliantly over the past couple of years. They have put a phenomenal amount of work in – from busking on the streets of Dublin to promoting their own gigs – in pursuit of success. That has paid off in artistic terms: Joyland is a hugely sophisticated pop record, which is just made for radio.
"They are now ready to take the step up to the next level – which is to go international,” Niall Stokes added. "On the cover of Hot Press last issue, we asked: 'Are Keywest the next Irish band to conquer the world?' Well, everything is pointing in that direction…"
Another familiar Irish name makes it to No.4 this week, as Kodaline climb four spots with Coming Up For Air, while The Weeknd's Beauty Behind The Madness also climbs, reaching No. 5.
Hozier, Lana Del Ray and James Bay all spend another week in the top ten; the weeks highest new entry is Rudimental, charting at No. 8.
