Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly made huge waves on the music scene since its release less than 12 months ago.
Now the Grammy-winning rapper has surprised everybody by unleashing a brand new offering, untitled unmastered.
The eight tracked LP is made up of material from To Pimp A Butterfly that didn’t make it onto the album. The tracks follow the same theme as the album’s name by all being untitled, but each one is tagged with a date.
The Compton-born rapper recently revealed that he had a “chamber” of unreleased material that didn’t make the album, “I think probably close to ten songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut”, Lamar revealed in an interview.

Some of these songs Lamar used for television performances, including one at the Grammys where he nabbed the award for Best Rap Album of the Year.
Following Lamar’s epic Grammy performance, LeBron James tweeted the rapper pleading with him to release the unused music, and according to Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith the release of untitled unmastered was a direct result of LeBron’s request.
