The singer gets in first before the newspapers do
In what appears to be a tabloid spoiler tactic, Imelda May has taken to Facebook to announce that, "My husband Darrel and I have split up. As you can imagine we are very sad but happy we're making the right decision for us and our daughter who is doing really well by the way."
Noting that "the papers are running with it soon", the Dublin singer continues: "Weird to have your life as gossip but that's human nature. No matter what you hear and read my husband and I have the deepest love and respect for each other and are doing well. We are lucky to both have such amazing family and friends. As you know I hate to air my laundry in public and never do but thought I should put something on here to dispel any bad rumours. I wish you and yours much love. God bless. Imelda X."
The post has elicited over 5,000 comments, virtually all of them supportive of the pair who, from the sound of it, are bracing themselves for some lurid headlines in tomorrow's newspapers.
Having been a notable absentee earlier this month when Imelda supported Paolo Nutini in Marlay Park, Darrel Higham took to Facebook himself three days ago to announce the formation of a new band with old friends David Konig and Russ Chadd. Accompanied by Snowboy on percussion, they've been recording an album in Brighton's Embassy Studio with gigs coming up shortly.
