The Class Of 2015 has just been announced and also includes the likes of Joan Jett and Bill Withers.
The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced and most notably include Green Day, who will be inducted in their first year of eligibility.
The punk trio will be joined by Lou Reed, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and ‘Lean on Me ’ singer Bill Withers.
Reed, who passed away last year, was previously inducted as a member of The Velvet Underground.
Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Double Trouble completes the list of six, selected from 15. Those who missed out on the prestigious accolade include The Smiths, N.W.A and Nine Inch Nails.
Vaughan will be honoured posthumously after being awarded with the fan vote. The blues guitarist, who has been eligible since 2008, died in a helicopter crash in 1990.
Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr will also be inducted to the Hall of Fame with the award for musical excellence. It is understood R&B quintet The “5” Royales will be recognised for their early influence.
In a statement, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame foundation president Joel Peresman said: “As we mark 30 years of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions, we’re proud to honour these artists. These inductees epitomize rock and roll’s impact over the past 50 years and continuing through today."
The ceremony will take place in Cleveland’s Public Hall on April 18, 2015.
