The visit of the hot feminist comedian to Ireland has turned into a highly entertaining event. Bill Hader and Judd Apatow are also in town for the Trainwreck premiere...
Twitter was on fire – well nearly – this afternoon with the news that Amy Schumer was in one of Dublin’s most famous, and most definitely best, pubs, Grogan’s, on the corner of Castle Market and South William Street. And what’s more that she was having a sing-song with Glen Hansard.
Schumer was accompanied by the film director Judd Apatow. Among the songs they sang was ‘The Auld Triangle’ – which, of course, Glen has frequently been known to extemporise on.
Schumer is in Dublin for the premiere of her new comedy film Trainwreck, which takes place tonight at the Savoy Cinema, in O’Connell Street. Schemer wrote the script and stars in the movie. Co-star Bill Hader will also attend the premiere tonight.
Former Hot Press writer Steve Cummins spotted Schumer and friends mingling with the wedding party of J.P. McSwaine and Eithne McAdam in the pub. Swain is the founder of the First Fortnight festival. “Who shows up for @jpswaine and Eithne’s wedding only @amyschumer, Glen Hansard and Judd Aptow?” Cummins asked, on Twitter.
Schumer was a big hit when she appeared at the O’Reilly Theatre in Dublin last night, answering questions posed by Panti Bliss. “I’ve had a lot of sex in my life,” Schumer confessed at one point, “and no bullshit, 80% of those were Irish people.”
“Don’t applaud that,” she continued. “You know what that means."

She encouraged women to get involved in comedy, to counter-balance the dominance exerted by male comedians. “Any chick that has an inkling of a desire to try it should,” she observed, “because there is a shortage.”
Schumer also had kind words to say about the Irish female comedian, Maeve Higgins.
“Maeve Higgins, I’m sorry,” she said, “but we’re keeping her. And we’ll send her back for holidays.”
Trainwreck opens in Irish cinemas today.
