So began a sidesplitting chat between comedian and actor Patrick McDonnell and our own Colm O’Regan.
Talk immediately veered towards the recent Marriage Referendum and a certain broadcasting institution's coverage of the lead up to the vote. "This notion of balance is ridiculous" said McDonnell "It’s getting so that even to report the weather someone from the Iona Institute has to be involved".
The comedian had some strong words about John Waters and of the odd county out in the referendum results, McDonnell suggested that "Roscommon has twinned with North Korea and I’ve heard they’ve been dealing with Vladimir Putin about oil and gas reserves."
McDonnell will soon be seen re-teaming with McSavage in Poor Me And The Bastards, a new project that sees the Savage Eye creator explore aspects of his own life.
The Father Ted star went on to tell us that a certain few of his famous catchphrases from the show continue to follow him around to this day. "I could write the next Ulysses and all they’d remember is "I’ve no willy!" he said, "I’ve had it shouted at me at funerals."
