As well as treating us to some killer music, Eurosonic was also host to the Festival Awards Europe 2010, which this year received over 350,000 online votes.
It was a good night to be Irish with three gongs wending their way here.
The Electric Picnic picked up ‘Best Medium-Sized European Festival’, Oxegen got the ‘Best European Festival Line-Up’ nod and Temple House in Sligo went home with ‘Best New European Festival’ – a major triumph for Roderick and Helena Perceval who had the unenviable task of launching at the height of the recession.
Victorious in the other categories were:
‘Best Major European Festival’ – Heineken Open'er Festival (Poland)
‘Best Small European Festival’ – 5 Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival (Poland)
‘Best Indoor Festival’ – Rolling Stone Weekender (Germany)
‘Best Newcomer’ – Florence and the Machine
‘Best Headliner’ – Muse
‘Festival Anthem Of The Year’ – Muse ‘Uprising’
If you didn’t hear birthday boy Dan Hegarty broadcasting live from Groningen, fear not, because he’ll be presiding over two additional 2fm highlights shows this Wednesday and Thursday between 11pm and 1am.
