The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician, D.J. Fontana has passed away at the grand old age of 87.
He bashed away on the drums on on countless Elvis classics, including the likes of 'Blue Suede Shoes','"Heartbreak Hotel', and 'Hound Dog'.
D.J. played with Elvis for 14 years and recorded an estimated 460 tracks with the music icon.
In an interview with Rolling Stones magazine last year, D.J. said: "We didn't really rehearse. Just go out and wing it and do the best we could. Me and Scotty and Elvis, and that's all we really needed."
D.J. has often been hailed for helping to pioneer the backbeat swing of rock and roll and was known for his "no-nonsense" style of drumming.
"My Dad passed away in his sleep at 9:33 tonight. He was very comfortable with no pain. I will post more tomorrow when I have more information. We ask for privacy at this time. Thank you for your love and prayers," his son David posted on Facebook.
