Soak is the only Irish contender, while Foals also make a strong showing...
Ed Sheeran, Foals, Florence + The Machine and Noel Gallagher are the biggest winners – or potential winners – as the nominations for this year's Q Awards are announced.
Meanwhile, Derry-born troubadour Soak is the only Irish nominee, in any category. She is one of ten nominees in the Best New Act category. She faces still opposition with Courtney Barnett, Wolf Alice and Jess Glynn among those she is pitted against.
Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher are both in the running for Best Solo Artist, a unisex category that also includes Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, among the nominees. Both Gallagher and Sheeran have also been nominated for Best Act In The World.
Gallagher's third nomination is in the Best Album category for his record Chasing Yesterday. Meanwhile Sheeran – who is hugely popular in Ireland – has also been shortlisted for Best Live Act,. The ginger-haired superstar made two appearances at Croke Park this summer, attracting an audience of 160,000 people.
Florence Welsh of Florence and the Machine has been nominated for Best Track for her single 'What Kind of Man’. Her album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful is one of the five nominated for Best Album. Her third nomination is for the video for her single 'Ship To Wreck’, which is in the Best Video award list.
