The writer later apologised on Twitter, saying her actions were "inexcusable."
Saturday Night Live has pushed Trump's buttons more than a few times, but a writer for the show created a whole new controversy when she made a joke about the youngest Trump, ten-year-old Barron Trump. Katie Rich, a writer for the show, posted on her Twitter account on January 20, inauguration day, saying, "Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter." Immediately there was backlash, with former White House kid Chelsea Clinton even coming to Barron's aid, tweeting, "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids."
Rich deleted the tweet shortly after, and deactivated her personal twitter account. According to The New York Times, she has been suspended from the show indefinitely, and her name was removed from the credits of last week's episode starring Aziz Ansari. Rich apologised on Twitter, calling the tweet "insensitive."
I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I'm so sorry.

Donald Trump himself has been quick to criticise SNL in the past, at least when they're making fun of him. He's called the show "one-sided" "not funny" and "unwatchable," whenever they've impersonated him. You'd think that he'd have something to say about one of their writers making fun of his youngest son, but so far, not a tweet from the new American president.
