On Mental Health Week, we flick through what was making headlines in our special issue this time last year, where Johnny Marr and Lethal Dialect also themselves on our pages
It being Mental Health Week, we felt it only fitting that we cast our minds back to this time last year, when Hot Press published a Mental Health Special.
Inside, revealing interviews with Kerry Coroner Terence Casey and radio personality Nikki Hayes shone a light on the subject, but perhaps nobody caught the eye quite like World Champion walker Rob Heffernan, who opened up in an amazing chat with our man Stuart Clark – check it out here.
Mr Clark was a busy boy that fortnight, as he’d also wagged chins with Delorentos, who discussed their album Night Becomes Light – which, unsurprisingly, garnered a Choice Music Prize nomination a few months later. Elsewhere in the issue, Johnny Marr and Marketa Irglova opened up, while Colm O’Regan came over all fanboy with Craig Finn of The Hold Steady.
Our critical ear was drawn to Alt-J’s This Is All Yours, which greatly impressed Ed Power, though Craig Fitzpatrick was a little less than blown away by their live performance, describing their 3Arena show as ‘A gig of Kraftwerkian proportions – in the musicians standing stock still’ sense.
Roe McDermott, meanwhile, was moderately impressed by the turn of Aubrey Plaza in Life After Beth.
Finally, Bono had just revealed U2’s plans to play an arena tour rather than their typical stadium jaunt – fast forward 12 months, and we’re busy limbering up for their 3Arena visit next month!
