David Bowie is to be honoured at this years ceremony two years after receiving the award for Best Male following the release of 2013 album The Next Day
Brits chairman Max Lousada today announced that the "extraordinary life and work" of "one of our greatest icons" would be honoured at the 2016 Brit Awards on February 24th.
Bowie who won Best British Male at the ceremony two years ago, 30years after he first won the award will be honoured after loosing an 18-month battle with cancer. Tributes have been paid to Bowie from other musicians, actors and politicians and Lousada feels that it is important that he is honoured at the ceremony stating that "David Bowie was one of the most important and influential songwriters and performers ever and, like so many fans around the world, we're devastated to hear of his loss.
Lousada continues by saying "A visionary and ground-breaking pioneer, he has inspired generations of musicians and will continue to shape music for many years to come."
Bowie is being celebrated the world over, last night a street party was held in Brixton where Bowie was born with tens of thousands of fans turning up to show their respect for the icon.

Yesterday shortly after his passing a planned tribute concert that is to take place on March 31st in New Yorks Carnegie Hall’s tickets sold out almost immediately. The Organisers said: "The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past seven months, into a memorial concert.'
The tribute concert will feature artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Perry Farrell, and The Roots.
