36-year-old Brandon Hixon, who was a Republican Idaho State Representative for District 10 in the A seat, has shot himself in the head after being forced to step down from his position while being investigated for sexual abuse.
Back in October, the Idaho police department confirmed that Hixon was the subject of a criminal investigation. It was subsequently reported that Hixon was under investigation for unspecific "sexual abuse allegations".
This then prompted the father of five, who denied the charges, to submit a letter of resignation a few days later to the House Speaker.
After stepping down, he hit the headlines after being arrested for drink-drinking charges on two separate occasions.
He was found dead in the family home on 9 January. Hixon is the second US politician to commit suicide recently following following sex abuse allegations. Kentucky lawmaker Dan Johnson shot himself last year after he was accused of sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl in 2013.
Records obtained by The Associated Press show that Hixon was previously the focus of a separate police investigation after being accused of what is being described as "inappropriate touching" back in 2014.
