American indie-pop band to release new album this week
2015 was a busy year for dream pop band, Beach House, with the release of two albums within two months (Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars). Now, Beach House is back at it, releasing their newest album, B-Sides And Rarities, on the 30 June.
For their upcoming record, the Baltimore duo gathered songs that didn’t quite fit their other albums for some reason or another. The orphaned tracks come together to form a smooth collection of the band’s typical moody, hypnotic pop.
Beach House explained the concept, stating, “When we announced that we were releasing a B-sides and rarities album, someone on Twitter asked, ‘B-sides record? Why would Beach House put out a B-sides record? Their A-sides are like B-sides.’ This random person has a point. Our goal has never been to make music that is explicitly commercial. Over the years, as we have worked on our 6 LPs, it wasn’t the ‘best’ or most catchy songs that made the records, just the ones that fit together to make a cohesive work. Accordingly, our B-sides are not songs that we didn’t like as much, just ones that didn’t have a place on the records we were making….This compilation contains every song we have ever made that does not exist on one of our records.”
The oldest song on the album is ‘Rain in Numbers,’ written in 2005, while the most recent unreleased tracks (‘Chariot’ and ‘Baseball Diamond’) come from the Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars albums of 2015.
