How nice it must have felt
To have been dignified
In your loneliness
To sit with yourself
And not feel the weight
Of silence in your pocket
To not think
‘No one has talked to me today’
Though one thousand people
Saw your name
How nice it must have felt
To have ripped up
Your love letters
To have burnt your pictures
To have watched newspaper
Brown and yellow
With the age of your memories

Now you are online
Your words are not
Retractable
This is the price you pay
For being
contactable
